Mexico 1492: a magnifiscent shine of the copper cazo (pot), handmade by Michoacan master coppersmiths, carrying the tradition of their great-great grandfathers, since before the times of the conquest of Mexico.

Copper

The area known today as Santa Clara del Cobre was a renowned copper center even before the conquest of Mexico. The Purépecha people were widely known as excellent coppersmiths, and even though the Spanish conquistadores brought several new techniques for working the copper from Europe, the Purépecha contributed with their own way of extracting the metal from the ore by adding heat, that was more efficient than other, known techniques of the old world. 

Today, the new generations of coppersmiths, the descendants of those ancient masters, continue to create the most beautiful, salmon-reddish colored utensils and decorative pieces, traditionally used and cherished by many Mexican households. Comales, cazos (pots), tableware and receptacles offered in our shop were handcrafted, crated by 100% pure copper from the Michoacán mines, by those Purépecha artisans, carrying the torch of their long-gone ancestors. 

Important announcement for the customers in the USA: Even though all our products are made in Mexico and can be imported to the US under the USMCA trade agreement without any customs fees, all products made of copper or containing copper are subject to tariff charges starting 2025. The percentage varies and can be as high as 60% of the product value. Please consider this before ordering.
